Perfect Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day looming around the corner, I was asked by my sons what I wanted. I told them to save their money!

It’s my 14th Mother’s Day. WOW – can’t believe how quick time has flown by. And WOW –that makes me sound ancient! … But after this many years, the novelty of the day has worn off. It’s just another Sunday. Just another day that I’ll enjoy spending with my family… But I wouldn’t mind getting spoilt, just a little!

I’ve asked my children not to buy me gifts or cards but instead to make me something. For me this is much more special as it’s personal. My 9 year old told me he’s writing me a poem! SHOCKING! He doesn’t like poetry, he reads my poems and comments “it’s good but I don’t like poems”. LOL! The other two boys, well I’ll keep you informed. Last year my 14 year old made me an origami rose, something he does as a hobby. It was beautiful! And my middle son, well he’s the artist. He has made me some of the loveliest cards. I’m looking forward to seeing how their artistic flair has developed this year…

So my perfect Mother’s Day – I would wake to breakfast in bed, nothing extravagant, just black coffee and maybe croissants or fruit. And this is when the boys would give me whatever they have decided to grace me with this year. After breakfast we would all take the dog for a nice leisurely stroll (weather permitting) because he is also my baby so I need to spend some time with him! After this we would go visit my mum, she will have lunch ready for us. A few hours spent here and its time for our next visit, to see my mother-in-law, here we have dinner. All visits done and all mums are happy. Upon returning home we would all get into our PJ’s, get some popcorn and crisps and settle in front of the TV for a movie, accompanied with a few drinks – Southern Comfort & lemonade. Mmmm, nice!

After all that I won’t be able to move because it sounds like I’ve been eating and drinking all day. Oh I nearly forgot to mention, hubby would have got all the ironing done along with all my other Sunday chores as you can read about in my one of my other blogs. Also the kids would be on their most perfect behaviour, no bickering or fighting and definitely no talking back!

That would be my perfect Mother’s Day.

And do you know what? Apart from hubby doing the chores, I can imagine this is exactly how Sunday is going to unfold. In other words… It’s going to be perfect. ย

So how about you mums? What would make your Mother’s Day perfect?

Yeah, it’s a bit silly not to celebrate it on the same day all over the world. But I’ll have your Mother’s day post to look forward to in May then! X

  3. How wonderful that your children are so creative! I love the origami rose. I’ve hardly ever bought my mum a card, I usually make her one. I’m 26 now, but they are more fun. Granted I’m not creative at all it never looks as good as a shop bought one x

It’s the effort you put in that’s appreciated. I’m sure your mum would love anything you made for her… I’m making my mum’s card now! Lol! X

I got a sarcastic card and present for my first Mother’s day and it was perfect. My husband knows me well. I’ve never spent much on my mum on mother’s Day…it’s always been a “thought that counts” occasion for us and I very much would like it to remain that way now I’m a mum.
