Just you and me

Across the land

Looking out at the sea

Is where we will live one day

Just you and me.

We’ll wake in the mornings

Have coffee on the balcony

Enjoying the peacefulness

Just you and me.

We will stroll along the beach

Taking in the serenity

My hand clasped around yours

Just you and me.

Our days spent reminiscing

Of how life used to be

Before we decided to move out here

Just you and me.

We’ll talk about the children

And new additions to our family

Proud parents they have made us

Just you and me.

We might shed a tear or two

Remembering those now playing absentee

But we will console each other

Just you and me.

We’ll talk and we will laugh

We’ll hold each other as we gaze silently

Making fond new memories

Just you and me.

We will live out our days here

We’ll keep one another happy

Our love gaining strength every moment

Together till the end… just you and me.

That’s exactly how I imagine spending my retirement years. Just me and my husband. A really touching piece of poetry, thank you for reminding me what I’m working towards.

Ah. I just love this poem. It sounds like you have a wonderful relationship with your husband. When my kids were very small, I remember thinking my husband and I had to put our marriage “on the back burner” as we tried to cope with two toddlers. It seems like that was just yesterday…but it was a long time ago. Now he and I are walking together, remembering…
